It has been twelve months since the newly amended CDM regulations came into effect, with the aim of integrating health and safety into the management of a construction project. This was part of a Government plan to once and for all put construction's reputation as an unnecessarily dangerous industry to rest. The intention was to encourage effective planning and management throughout construction projects, helping with the early identification of hazards and focusing attention and effort on managing health and safety issues on site and in use, ensuring that it is seen as an integral part of every process and not an optional extra.
