Regeneration schemes at various stages of gestation are commonplace across the UK, putting back life and building new communities in swathes of land left abandoned by our industrial forefathers. By investing in brownfield projects with visionary schemes led by energetic promoters and professionals we can leave something positive for future generations to enjoy. This vision has been achieved by 33 Gallaher, the Birmingham-based property developer and its professional advisers with the redevelopment of East Dock Street, Dundee. Gallaher Retail Park is a classic regeneration project with an added dimension, and that is the careful dismantling and re-erection, within a new retail unit, of a listed building. The site covers some 3.5ha and has been developed in two phases which began in 2002. A site history revealed that the area was formerly part of the Tay Estuary and was reclaimed in the mid-1800s. Thereafter the site was used as a mineral yard, and a foundry.
