Many planning applications for new developments are coming II unstuck as environmental regulators tighten the rules surrounding flood risks. Historically, the risk of flooding from rivers has been the main reason for this type of planning objection but there is now a new emphasis being placed on site drainage and on the flood potential from uncontrolled runoff of surface water. The Government's drive to redevelop brownfield sites, many of which are situated next to rivers, has also highlighted flooding issues.
