It is often difficult to justify having a swimming pool as they are seen as an energy-deficient luxury. Combined with an increasing demand for a reduction in the carbon footprint swimming pools are deemed more of a liability than a necessity. However, the development of innovative heat-retaining, energy-efficient pools has breathed new life into the swimming pool sector; no longer do pools have to cost a fortune to build and maintain. The Polypool system has been developed from a simple recognition of the law of physics; that heat will flow from a warm body to a cold one in order to achieve balance. Traditional concrete or block-paved walls are porous and the heat can escape easily into the colder ground surrounding it.
