Floorcoverings supplied into the European Union (EU) need to comply with what are known as the essential health, safety and environmental requirements of the Construction Products Directive (CPD). The CE mark is the claim by the manufacturer, or first importer to the EU, that they have verified compliance. The CE mark also signifies that the product complies with all relevant EU legislation and ensures free movement and sale of products within the EU. The relevant harmonised standard is EN 14041:2004, which itself calls up a number of other standards (see Figure 1). It covers: resilient floorcoverings manufactured from plastics, linoleum, cork or rubber, excluding loose laid mats textile floorcoverings, excluding loose laid mats and rugs laminate floor coverings. floor panels for loose laying, when wall to wall.
