A PETITION TO INCLUDE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) launched its Sustainable Schools Strategy (S3) in November 2006 with its 'Year of Action' for Schools. The National Association for Environmental Education (NAEE) supports this strategy, whilst agreeing with Waheed Saleem, Commissioner for Education & Young People at the Sustainable Development Commission, that 'our efforts to achieve the aims of Every Child Matters risk being wasted if we do not embrace the Environment as a key factor... and it is about time we put the Environment at the heart of children's policy' (Earlier this year, NAEE launched its new document Environmental Education & Every Child Matters). NAEE wants to put the Environment at the heart of the National Curriculum and invites you to join them in their efforts to achieve this aim by signing the petition (visit http://www.naeeuk. plus.com/Petition_letter.pdf) which will be submitted to the DCSF for serious consideration.
