In India more than 80% of the renewable water resources are consumed in agriculture alone. The government of India has recognized the importance of micro-irrigation for improving water and land productivity and identified a suitable potential area of 69 Mha. In order to make the systems costs affordable for farmers, the government has extended the subsidy on the equipment cost.
