Molecular Tools for the Pearl Millet Nuclear Genome

A potential levolution in understanding of, and ability to manipulate, oligogenic and quantitative traits is offered to plant bleeders by recent advances in genetic marker technology. This has been the subject of several reviews (Melchinger 1990, Edwards 1992), but only recently have the necessary molecular tools become available to pearl millet breeders. A summary of recent advances in this area in our laboratories follows.
