GREEN STAR WARS: TTIMBER THREATENED BY SKEWED RATING REGULATIONS

The superior environmental performance of wood over other building products is undeniable, yet timber continues to get a raw deal from construction greenhouse gas emission and energy rating regulators. THERE IS A WIDELY held view that the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is setting unrealistic and inappropriate specifications for timber to earn Green Stars against competitive products such as concrete, steel and brick. And Inwood has evidence that this unfair practice is linked to or driven by a set of standards drawn up by Green groups such as Friends of the Earth and the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF).
