Water seems to be in abundance as a natural resource on this planet, with the entire body of salt water covering more than 70 percent of the earth's surface; nonetheless only 0.3 percent of the world's water can be used as potable water. This is a drastic statistic; in realistic terms our only other option to produce potable water is to use seawater, clearly the only long-term completely reliable source available to us. Gibraltar, through the years, has had to come up with many different methods of producing potable water due to its geographical location and lack of natural resources (no springs or rivers). Now producing a sustainable option, along with many other areas Gibraltar is one example where sea water has been used to minimise the wastage of potable water.
