Dispatch system goes public at FI2006

Asset Forestry's revolutionary decentralised wood supply system goes public when its recently re-branded WSX software is launched at NZ Forest Industries Exhibition this month. THE GROUNDBREAKING SYSTEM WAS initially implemented at Carter Holt HarveyForests' Nelson operation, where the two transport operators control their own dispatching while working off the same dispatch database (see Inwood #65). The latest convert to WSX is Rayonier New Zealand, which also manages the forests purchased from CHHF by joint venture Matariki Forests. With forests located the length and breadth of New Zealand Rayonier has always faced greater supply chain challenges than most other New Zealand forest owners, so taking on the Matariki Forests estate meant a whole new focus on supply chain efficiency. Rayonier's move to implement the WSX system in its Bay of Plenty and Northland regions late last year has been a significant step up in complexity for Asset Forestry, tracking wood supply from the two companies to multiple customers, between regions, via multiple distribution contractors, three dispatch providers and dozens of logging crews. Bay of Plenty regional manager for Rayonier Jason Syme explains: "The major thing this system has to handle is the distributed nature of our business. We have the situation where more than one region could be supplying a customer, so it not only has to cope with the geographic spread but also give us a complete picture of the operation.
