Native forest sawmilling on mainland Australia now focuses exclusively on processing logs from regrowth forests and trying to add value to some pretty ordinary product. But a combination of commercial courage and engineering technology has led to sawmills being retooled and upgraded to cut small, low-quality logs with acceptable recovery rates, production costs and quality targets.
