Manufacturing members of the BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door & Doorset Scheme supply more than 75 percent of the fire doors used in the UK each year and the range of products available means that there is really no reason not to specify third-party certificated fire doors. And the BWF (British Woodworking Federation) is keeping up its campaign to drive home just how this specification decision will provide everyone involved in the buying, installing and inspecting of fire doors with the confidence of knowing that they are absolutely fit for purpose. 'Ifs all about awareness' says Richard Lambert, chief executive of the BWF. 'Fire doors can be just another item on a long list of building materials. But they are unique in the job that they do - preventing the spread of fire. Only third-party certification will provide the confidence of knowing that the door will perform its passive fire protection function. This is one item on the building materials list on which there should never be any compromise because of cost or expedience, because the risks are just too great.'
