Support Services and Construction Company Carillion has scooped the Institution of Civil Engineers (Wales), Roy Edwards Small Projects Award for its innovative 'S' shaped footbridge over the River Towy, for client Carmarthenshire County Council. The unique structure forms a stunning gateway from the railway station and a new coach park to Carmarthen town centre. It is hoped that its construction will provide a landmark feature which complements the county's sustainable transport needs, as well as invite investment into the area. The 1.9 million pounds project involved the design, fabrication and erection of a 150m twin cable stayed bridge, 'S' shaped in plan and curved in elevation, ancillary works included amendments to the Coracle Way roundabout and the construction of a new coach and car park by the railway station.
