Pulp closures deepen East Canada woodfiber surplus,triggering price drops and supply/demand imbalance

Pulpwood markets across Eastern Canada remain in a state of flux,with wood surpluses piling up in the wake of mill closures over the past 18 months.Delivered pulpwood prices are reported down in all major categories,namely softwood residual sawmill chips(the main furnish for Eastern Canada's pulp mills).Pulpwood consumption permanently lost in the region currently totals over 8 million m3/year,but may rise to almost 11 million m3 if two temporarily idled pulp mills in Nova Scotia and Ontario cannot reopen.
