G-P acquisitions continue with Parsons & Whittemore and Grant, jumps up position as second-leading pulpwood consumer in South
Georgia-Pacific reached a definitive agreement to buy Parsons & Whittemore's (P&W) two big market pulp mills at Perdue Hill, AL, in a major acquisition boosting its position in Southern woodfiber markets (and headaches for its wood buyers). P&W assets would increase G-P's wood consumption by an estimated 4.4 million tons/ year, making the combined firm the second largest pulpwood consumer in the South at almost 30 million tons/year, after International Paper.
