Woodfiber markets in the Lake States are close to panic condition, as a long-developing toxic brew combining a brutally cold winter, a long spring break-up, a rainy early summer, and a shortage of loggers put consuming mills in very tight inventory positions. Delivered prices for pulpwood began spiking by the end of first quarter, and subsequently took flight over second quarter and into third.
