Leclercia adecarboxylata, an unusual hemodialysis catheter-related infection.

A 58-year-old African-American man with a past medical history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) secondary to diabetic nephrosclerosis on maintenance hemodialysis via left internal jugular tunneled catheter was admitted to the hospital with low-grade fever after hemodialysis. Medical history includes diabetes with complications including retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy, hepatitis C, hypertension, and major depression. He has been on maintenance hemodialysis since October 2009 via left upper extremity arterio-venous graft, which was throm-bosed and needed intervention in February 2010. He had a tunneled catheter placed in the interim and was in place for about 3 weeks prior to the presentation.
