KEEP THE NOISE DOWN

This research has involved a wide survey of acoustic conditions in classrooms. It found that a high percentage of schools both old and new do not meet current standards and that many are acoustically unsuitable environments for teaching and learning. Whilst it is possible to design fully soundproofed walls, natural budget limitations determine where lower insulation levels are suitable. If the room design is such that there is a long reverberation, by which the sound continues to reverberate and decay is long, this creates a background noise and makes speech less intelligible.
