摘要

A comprehensive laboratory testing program hasbeen conducted to establish the engineering properties of goldtailings from Kidston Gold Mines in North Queensland, Australia.The engineering properties of the tailings have been categorisedinto textural, hydraulic, and mechanical properties. The texturalproperties include the particle size distribution and the specificgravity. The hydraulic properties include the water characteristiccurve, and the saturate and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity.Various models that describe the tailings water characteristic curveand hydraulic conductivity function have been presented. Themechanical properties include the bulk modulus, Poisson's ratio,the friction angle, the dilation angle, and the unsaturated shearstrength parameters. The engineering properties of the tailing arevital to the management of the tailings both during the mine'soperation, and long after its de-commissioning.
