King Canute, so we are told, sat on his throne on the beach and ordered the waves to retreat. As a result he has gone down in British history as a byword for trying to prevent the inevitable. What has that got to do with us, you might ask? The parallels are clearly seen if you consider that as building professionals we are now facing possibly the greatest tide of change that the industry has experienced. We are all familiar with the terms Part L and Code for Sustainable Homes. However, now we are faced with implementing the Code for Sustainable Non-dwellings which is far more comprehensive than the present code. We have deadlines to meet; 2016 for Zero Carbon homes; 2019/2020 for zero-rated commercial units; all of this being driven by the EU and the Energy Performance Building Directive. So, how do we deal with this flood of legislation?
