CONCEPT FOR MAKING WATER FROM AIR WINS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION

'Watair' - a 96m~2, inverted pyramid array of panels that collects dew from the air and turns it into 48 litres of fresh water per day has won Arup's drawing water challenge. Designed by a pair of architects, the implication of their scheme is that it could provide a constant supply of fresh water in polluted and remote areas in just about any climate. The drawing water challenge was an international competition Arup launched in September 2006 which sought inspirational ideas and concepts that could help bring clean, safe water and sanitation to the millions of people around the world. An outstanding response of 91 entries was submitted from North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. A panel of respected judges including Sir Christopher Frayling, Ken Shuttleworth, Frank Lawson, Valerie Kuntz and Arup's Jo da Silva and David Glover selected the winning shortlist. The winners were formally announced at an awards ceremony on 15 February.
