ABE MEMBER TO ATTEMPT KILIMANJARO'S SUMMIT FOR MACMILLAN

ABE member, Marcus Wearmouth from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, will start at 1,800m and climb to 5,896m through tropical rainforest and moorland to a summit of glaciers and permanent ice cap to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief. The Kilimanjaro Hiking Challenge is a demanding trek that takes people to extreme altitude at the top of the highest free-standing mountain in the world. The route will take Marcus past breathtaking scenery from lush rainforest to barren scree slopes and to the summit of ice cliffs and glaciers. "This will be one of the most challenging things I have ever done," says Marcus. "There will be lots of steep climbs and hard treks and I'll also have to contend with the effects of being at high altitude. But I will be spurred on through every step knowing that the money I raise will help people who are facing the far greater challenge of living with cancer.
