Mixers do A very simple job, they take all the audio sources — such as microphones and CD players — mix the signals together and send this combined signal out to the amplifiers and loudspeakers. Sometimes they also allow you to send different audio signals to different loudspeakers and also simultaneously to recording equipment, videoconferencing feeds, or whatever. All mixers have a number of input channels and some main outputs. There will be equalisation controls on each input channel to allow you to adjust the tone of each signal. The price and purpose of the desk will determine how comprehensive (and complicated) this is.
