Ricefield weeds are often infected by the blast pathogen Pyricularia grisea, and possible cross-infection between rice-and weed-infecting populations of the pathogen could have implications for blast management. In previous studies, populations of theblast pathogen infecting rice and weed hosts were shown to be distinct based on DNA fingerprintingusing the repetitive probe MGR586. To determine if rice- and weed-infecting populations of P. grisea were distinct in Korea, genetic relationships among isolates from rice and other hosts were analyzed by RFLP analysis using MGR586. Pathogeniciry of isolates to rice was examined.
