FIRE SAFETY AND MANAGEMENT

The RR(FS)O (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order) will make big changes to the way in which fire safety is managed in the UK. The final date of introduction has not yet been decided, but it is expected to be in force by the end of 2006. There's not much time, therefore, for those who are likely to be affected by the RR(FS)O to consider its implications and, where necessary, act upon them. Central to the changes which the RRFSO will make is the abolition of Fire Safety Certificates as evidence that premises meet the required standards. The emphasis is shifting to risk assessments which are to be carried out by a 'competent person' who is, in turn, appointed by a 'responsible person'.
