DOE Wields Enhanced Authority on CCUS, Hydrogen

The US Department of Energy(DOE)is getting some new authority and funding from the recently passed bipartisan infrastructure bill that at least in part will go toward boosting carbon capture and hydrogen projects. Oil companies looking at carbon management strategies have suggested that wider commercial deployment of technologies like carbon capture, utilization and storage(CCUS)and hydrogen rely heavily on government support. The bipartisan infrastructure bill, which President Joe Biden is expected to sign early next week, includes more than $62 billion in clean energy investments for the DOE, giving the department a bigger foothold for demonstration and loan guarantee programs.
