Ideas to improve your Bowling Green

Looking back through earlier editions of the "Bulletin", there have been many articles on the maintenance of bowling greens. A comprehensive account of this subject is also available on our video Bowling Green Maintenance by Roger Evans. This was produced by STRI in 1997 and no bowling club should be without one. In the course of my advisory work, however, I have picked up numerous tips that I try to pass on where appropriate. These little ideas have usually come from innovative greenkeepers who maynever have realised the usefulness of what they were doing and who would never have expected to see their ideas in print. In this article I have assembled some of what I think are the most interesting of these, along with one or two of my own.
