EIB Funds UK-Dutch Power Link

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union's long-term lending arm, is providing ?300 million ($441 million) in loans for the proposed 1 GW Britned cable project linking the UK and the Netherlands. The high-voltage subsea link is a joint venture between the UK's National Grid and TenneT in the Netherlands. Each will receive ?150 million to develop its portion of the project, whose total costs are put at ?600 million.
