BG Takes Control of Pure in Latest Australian CBM-to-LNG Tie-up

BG has beaten Australia's Arrow Energy to the hand of Australian coalbed methane (CBM) producer Pure Energy Resources in what looks set to be the latest tie-up in Australia's budding CBM-to-LNG sector. The UK gas giant announced Monday it had gained control of Pure, becoming a majority shareholder with 70%. Its takeover bid had been set to close Monday evening, but BG said it has extended the all-cash A$8.25 (US$5.67) per share offer - which is contingent on acquiring 90% of Pure - until Apr. 6.
