Artumas Eyes Mozambique Wells

Canada's Artumas and its partners are pushing ahead in Mozambique with a fourwell campaign due to start in the offshore Rovuma Block 1. The company said Monday that the work comes hard on the heels of a successful wildcat in the onshore Rovuma Block. The Mecupa-1 well spudded in early October. It was drilled to a target depth of 9,500 feet and hit hydrocarbon shows. However, US operator Anadarko said that while the well hit excellent reservoir sands and there are indications of hydrocarbons at various intervals, the well will be plugged and abandoned. Further evaluation continues. French explorer Maurel and Prom and UK-listed Cove Energy carried Artumas for the well after farming in to 24% of the onshore block.
