Transshipments at Latvia's Ventspils Nafta crude oil and products terminal on the Baltic Sea fell 3% in the first half of 2009. Ventspils Naftas Terminals (VNT) said it handled 6.4 million tons of crude and products in the six months, down from 6.6 million tons a year earlier. That included 4.7 million tons of diesel fuel delivered by rail and pipeline, 1.3 million tons of gasoline shipped by rail and 400,000 tons of seaborne crude and products. VNT blamed the drop on international competition as well as the global economic downturn.
