Saudi Arabia's Khursaniyah Gas Plant Finally Nears Completion

Saudi Arabia's delayed Khursaniyah gas plant will be partially completed in the coming months, the project contractor said Thursday. The plant is important for enabling full oil production from the under-utilized Khursaniyah project and to pump needed sales gas into the Saudi grid. "We are about to finish Khursaniyah this summer," Technip Chairman and Chief Executive Thierry Pilenko said in a conference call. He said the first train of the two-train gas plant is "almost complete" and that precommissioning continues. The 1 billion cubic foot per day plant, being built by a joint venture of Technip and Bechtel, was originally due to be finished by the end of 2007. But the project timeline has slipped several times because of equipment delivery backlogs and shortages of labor (IOD Sep.9,p3).
