Cuba has recently signed several new contracts to start drilling for oil and gas in the waters off its coast. And because such activity would occur in close proximity to Florida, the move has rekindled longstanding discussions in the US about US trade policy and energy security. Russian officials recently signed four agreements to help Cuban oil company Cubapetroleo search for crude oil in its Gulf of Mexico waters.
