The Ecuadorean navy, which has run state oil company Petroecuador since November 2007, is beginning to withdraw from its management role. According to Petroecuador, the first contingent of 42 navy officers left the firm this week in what will be a progressive departure of almost all military staff. Mercy Castro, a company spokesperson, says the withdrawal should be complete by mid-March.
