French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde has called for a freeze on gov- ernment-set gas tariffs until 2011 to give France’s energy regulator more time to review the pricing formula. The call came after energy regulator CRE said Thursday that France’s biggest gas play- er, GDF Suez, would be allowed to in- crease tariffs by 4.7% from Jul. 1 for more than 6 million consumers, just months after the regulator approved a 9.5% hike (IOD Mar.25,p8).
