US-based Apache has farmed in to 40% operating stakes in two permits in the Carnarvon Basin off Western Australia, WA- 409-P and WA-359-P, in return for agreeing to acquire at least 1,000 sq km of 3-D seismic data over both areas. Right now, permit WA-409-P is split 50-50 between Cue Energy Resources and Moby Oil & Gas. Both firms said Thursday that they have agreed to sell 20% of their interest to Apache, leaving each with 30%. If the US firm chooses to drill a well in the block, it can hike its stake to 70%, leaving each of the two original partners with a 15% carried interest.
