Bulgaria to Pay Pipe Debt

Russia has notched up its first real success in talks with Bulgaria over the 700,000 b/d Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, designed to run from the Bulgarian Black Sea to the Greek Mediterranean, bypassing Turkey’s congested Bosporus Straits. Sofia has agreed to pay european dollar 4.88 million ($6.3 million) it owes for work already carried out by pipeline operator Trans-Balkan Pipeline, in which Russia holds 51%, and Bulgaria and Greece 24.5% each, Transneft Vice President Mikhail Barkov said after visiting Bulgaria over the weekend (IOD Jul.6,p2).
