New Colombian President May Revive Regional Energy Cooperation

The recent inauguration of a new president in Colombia could lead to a revival of energy cooperation between that country and its neighbors Venezuela and Ecuador, with which relations have long been strained. Colombian Energy Minister Carlos Rodado told La Republica newspaper last week that he and his Venezuelan counterpart were negotiating an agreement under which the two countries’ state oil firms would co- operate on exploration and production in Venezuela’s Orinoco Basin heavy oil belt.
