The Andaman and Nicobar archipelago consists of 556 small and big islands and rocks and is aligned north south in the form of a broken chain between Cape Negrais (of Burman) in the North and Achin Head of Sumatra (of Indonesia) in the South, the former being situated i 92km from the northern tip of Andamans and the latter 144km from the southern tip of Nicobars.
