The international consortium developing the giant Shtokman gas and condensate field in the Barents Sea has signed a letter of intent with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that they say should lead to tighter environmental procedures for the project's first phase. Gazprom has a 51% stake in Shtokman, while France's Total has 25% and Norway's StatoilHydro 24%.
