The UK's Gulf Keystone said Tuesday it has spudded its first well in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq. The Shaikan-1 well, targeting multiple horizons ranging from 600 meters to 3,000 meters in depth, is expected to take four or five months to complete. The company has estimated in-place oil reserves in the area at around 2 billion bbl (IOD Apr.2,p8).
