Russia, Greece Ink South Stream

Russian gas giant Gazprom said Monday it has set up a joint venture with Greek gas grid operator Desfa to build the Greek section of the South Stream gas pipeline. The document establishing South Stream Greece — to be owned 50-50 — was agreed at a meeting in Moscow Monday of the Russian-Greek com- mission on economic, industrial and scientif- ic-technical cooperation. Gazprom said the company will be formally registered in Greece soon. It will design, fund, build and run the pipe on Greek territory. Desfa earlier said the Greek leg, running from the Bulgari- an border to the western coast, will cost ?1 billion ($1.24 billion) (IOD May26,p9).
