US independent Newfield Exploration has successfully tested its LF 7-1 well in Block 16/05 in China's Pearl River Mouth Basin. The well, in 350 feet of water, was drilled to a depth of 10,000 feet and flowed 6,000 b/d of 35° API oil. "We estimate that the gross reserves associated with our two discoveries to date are in excess of 30 million bbl," Newfield Vice President of International Operations William Schneider said. "This development will provide significant new oil production for Newfield beginning in 2012." Drilling at the nearby LF 7-6 prospect is planned to start next year.
