The UK Renewable Energy Association (REA) has presented its green tariff "blueprint" - developed by over 60 energy companies - to UK Energy Minister Mike O'Brien. As part of its European Union commitment to providing 20% of energy from renewable sources by 2020, the UK government has proposed a feed-in tariff to support renewable energy, under which small-scale producers are paid an above-market rate for every unit of renewable energy they produce. A similar system is already used widely around the world after being launched in Germany.
