Resilience in the context of culture: how women survive natural disasters.

摘要

The occurrence of natural disasters has prompted good research. The authors of three of the articles published in this special issue presented their findings at the annual conference of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) in 2009 in a symposium entitled, "Disaster Experiences of Older Adults Within the Cultural Context". Utilizing a life course perspective, the authors considered the experiences and coping strategies of older adults who had survived an earthquake in Peru in 2007, or hurricanes in the United States in 2005. For Health Care for Women International, the authors are presenting their findings to underscore the impact of natural disasters on women within the cultural context.
