The murder of an executive from services giant Weatherford International in southern Mexico has sparked concerns that the coun- try's oil and gas sector may be getting caught up in the endemic drug violence. A Colombian billing manager from Switzerland-based Weatherford was kid- napped and murdered in Tihuatlan, in southeastern Veracruz state, last week. The killing, which occurred near state oil firm Pemex's Poza Rica gas installation, has heightened tensions over the increasing se- curity risks facing Mexico's energy industry (OD Nov.19,p7).
