Gazprom May Start Field Early

Gazprom said Thursday that it may start production from the Bovanenkovskoye gas field on the Yamal Peninsula ahead of schedule if demand picks up. The announcement followed a visit to the region by Deputy Chief Executive Alexander Ananenkov for a meeting on developments in Yamal, in northwestern Siberia. According to Gazprom, nine drilling rigs have been delivered to Bovanenkovo and seven have started work. The other two will arrive next year. The Russian state gas giant has also built 340 km of a 1,100 km pipeline planned to move Bovanenkovo gas to its unified gas transport system.
