French independent energy supplier Poweo said Monday that its new combinedcycle gas-fired power plant (CCGT) at Pontsur- Sambre in northern France generated its first electricity this month. The 412 MW station brings Poweo's power generation capacity to 500 MW, including wind and hydroelectric plants. Poweo is the first new entrant to the French market to own such a big thermal power plant. It has two other French CCGT projects - one at Toul in eastern France for which it has building and operating permits, and another it is studying at Blaringhem near the Belgian border. The company is owned 30% by Austrian staterun power firm Verbund.
