Kiev Questions South Stream

Kiev has questioned the need for Russia’s South Stream gas pipeline, planned to deliver 63 Bcm/yr of gas to Europe without going through Ukraine. Ukrainian foreign minister Konstantin Grishchenko says the project is “too costly and brings no additional value because it is not supported by extra gas sources.” He adds that the Ukrainian gas transport system already offers stable gas deliveries to Europe and “there is no need to spend money when everyone is short of it.”
